Lansing School District recently selected SodexoMAGIC, LLC to become its new student nutrition provider. SodexoMAGIC, a partnership between Quality of Life services leader Sodexo, Inc. and Earvin “Magic” Johnson’s Magic Johnson Enterprises, is committed to creating a healthy learning environment in Lansing that promotes student engagement in support of well-being and achievement.
Sodexo supports student engagement and improves the Quality of Life for the entire Schools community. As part of our commitment to enhancing Quality of Life for the clients, students and communities we serve, we invite you to view the newly redesigned content on Lift-Off!’s Playground. Lift-Off!’s Playground provides easy to navigate online content for students and families around nutrition, fitness and overall healthy living.
Look on the site for the Monthly Fresh Pick. The Sodexo Fresh Pick program is designed to further the nutrition education of students, parents and educators by focusing on the many positive benefits of eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Each month features an instructional recipe video starring Sodexo Ambassador and Student Chef, Chef Remmi, using the Fresh Pick nutritional item of the month.
While you are visiting with Lift-Off!, don’t forget to check out our series of healthy cooking videos with Sodexo National Director of Wellness, Roxanne Moore, RDN. Throughout the videos, students talk about why each recipe is healthy. Many of the recipes were adapted from the Share Our Strength Cooking Matters program, the Gluten Intolerance Group or Sodexo and are designed to be kid-friendly.

Participated in Hope Holiday Thanksgiving meal, distributing over 700 holiday meals to community members
Participated in several community events such as; Lansing Showcase, Family Fun Night, Lansing Promise, Kirk Cousins Leadership Seminar & the Thank You Party for Police
Hosted the second annual Future Chef Challenge that invited all K-5 students to share a healthy breakfast recipe. The challenge was not solely about who is the best cook but allowed students to be creative, think for themselves and communicate with others
Introduced Chef G. Garvin to a student focus group at Sexton and obtained feedback from students regarding breakfast
Improving Student Achievement
Implemented a new concept called Street Eatz at Everett and Sexton. Street Eatz has the look and feel of a food truck experience, offering unique and authentic food choices.
Expanded supper programs to ten new elementary sites
Piloted “After the Bell” breakfast at Everett
Introduced unique fruits and vegetables, on all elementary salad bars, from every letter of the alphabet; such as ugli fruit & jicama
Great Start Readiness program now receiving afternoon snack, 23 classrooms
Offered The Junior Leadership Program for juniors and seniors at Everett High School. The program helps students gain valuable knowledge in business etiquette, thinking skills, networking and resume writing
Partnered with a start-up company, Back to the Roots, to help students rediscover the origin of food. Several garden groups in the elementary schools received Mushroom Farms, Water Gardens and Garden in a Can kits
